Kartarpur Gurdwara Disappears in Flood

Severe flooding in Punjab has submerged the historic Kartarpur Gurdwara, leaving around 200 to 300 people trapped in the area. Rescue operations by the Pakistan Army are underway to evacuate those stranded after floodwaters entered the shrine.

According to officials, water rushed into Kartarpur after a protective embankment of the Ravi River near the site gave way. The situation forced the closure of the Narowal–Shakargarh road, cutting off key access routes as floodwaters spread rapidly.

Authorities reported that the collapse of the dam near Bheko Chak was triggered by an extraordinary surge in the Ravi River, where more than 250,000 cusecs of water is flowing at Kot Ninan in Shakargarh. As a result, several areas, including Bheko Chak, Nowshera, Nowgaza, Mandikhel, Bhajna, and the Kartarpur Main Highway, are now submerged.

The Pakistan Army, in coordination with local administration, has launched relief and evacuation efforts. Teams are working to move families trapped by the rising waters to safer locations.

Flooding has not been limited to the Ravi River. Officials confirmed extremely high water levels in the Chenab River at Marala, with an inflow of 769,000 cusecs and an outflow of 762,000 cusecs. At Khanki, the flow has reached 755,000 cusecs, while the Ravi River at Jasar is also experiencing dangerous flooding.

Meanwhile, at Shahdara, the Ravi’s flow stands at 72,000 cusecs. The Baloki Headworks recorded an inflow of 79,000 cusecs and an outflow of 67,000 cusecs. Further downstream, water flow at Ganda Singh Wala reached 245,000 cusecs, while Sulemanki registered 100,000 cusecs.

Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert and cooperate with rescue teams as more rainfall is expected in the coming days.
