The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to establish three new graveyards in Islamabad following the directives of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa at CDA Headquarters, attended by board members and senior officers. The move comes in response to the growing population of the capital and the increasing demand for burial spaces.
According to the briefing during the meeting, nearly 800 kanals of land have been allocated for a graveyard in Pandorian, 200 kanals in Malpur, and more than 10 kanals in Hummak. These sites have been selected to cater to both urban and rural populations of Islamabad, ensuring convenience for citizens across the federal capital.
Chairman CDA instructed authorities to immediately begin work on the construction of model graveyards at all designated sites. He directed that the development of these facilities should follow the standards of “Shehr-e-Khamoshan” in Lahore as well as international models, ensuring modern infrastructure and comprehensive facilities.
The upcoming graveyards will include boundary walls, walkways, funeral halls, spaces for performing ghusl, mosques, ablution areas, water supply, parking facilities, and permanent LED lighting. Randhawa also emphasized upgrading existing graveyards in Islamabad, with improvements in boundary walls, security, lighting, and walkways.
To further facilitate citizens, the CDA announced the provision of special electric buses dedicated to funeral transport. These buses will be provided free of cost to carry the deceased to the graveyard.
Chairman Randhawa stressed that all available resources are being utilized to provide the best possible facilities to citizens during moments of grief, and the completion of new graveyards will meet Islamabad’s long-term burial needs.
