Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has come under criticism after she shared a photo of portable washrooms, presenting them as part of the government’s flood relief efforts in Chiniot. Social media users quickly pointed out that the image was actually a stock photo from OLX dating back to 2023.
The controversy surfaced at a sensitive time, as Punjab battles the devastating 2025 monsoon floods, which have already claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands. Maryam’s post, intended to highlight innovative steps in flood relief, instead triggered a wave of online backlash.
Critics accused her of spreading misinformation and using the crisis for political promotion, while opposition leaders seized on the incident to demand greater transparency in relief work.
In response, Punjab’s Information and Culture Minister, Azma Zahid Bokhari, defended the Chief Minister’s claims. She shared fresh pictures and videos on Twitter showing portable bathrooms that had indeed been built at a relief camp in Chiniot, aiming to verify that the initiative was real and ongoing.
