During a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health, a demand was raised to delay the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).
PTI Senator Mirza Afridi urged authorities to postpone the test, scheduled for October 5 by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), citing the emergency caused by ongoing floods. He said the devastation of villages, towns, and cities across the country had made it extremely difficult for students to prepare. The senator added that the floods had wreaked havoc in Punjab and were now spreading to Sindh, affecting a large number of students who plan to appear for MDCAT.
He appealed that the entry test be postponed until November to give flood-affected candidates a fair chance.
Briefing the committee, the President of PMDC said that a consultative meeting with medical universities would be held on September 10 to review the situation. Any decision regarding the holding or postponement of the test, he assured, would be taken in consultation with universities and in the best interest of students.
Mustafa Kamal clarified that while provincial government medical universities are responsible for conducting the MDCAT exam, the PMDC only prepares the test paper.
