The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken notice of media reports on the alleged availability of subscriber data online. PTA clarifies it does not hold or manage subscriber data, which remains solely with licensed operators.
Initial review shows the reported datasets include family details, travel records, vehicle registrations, and CNIC copies, indicating aggregation from multiple external sources, not telecom operators. PTA’s audits have found no breaches within the licensed sector.
In its ongoing crackdown on unlawful content, PTA has blocked 1,372 sites, apps, and social media pages involved in selling or sharing personal data. The Ministry of Interior has formed an inquiry committee that is probing into the matter.

The data breach has been going on unabated for the last many years, however, the Regulator (PTA) is totally ignorant or is trying to give such impression. It ironically holds further that the data security is within operators’ domain only and the Regulator has no responsibility in this regard. Every state institution unfortunately behaves in a similar fashion, leaving the public at lurch!
Probably some incompetent low level ISI fouji with complete access to telecom operators data uploaded his personal copy of database to unsecured cloud server, which got scrapped on the internet. These guys with so much access cant get 10rs job in private sector. No accountability in these lunatics.
