Nawab Town police have registered a case against a car driver for playing loud music, an incident that sparked widespread debate after the First Information Report (FIR) surfaced on social media on Tuesday.
The FIR was filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Rahmat Ali, who stated that police had set up a picket on Abdul Sattar Edhi Road to apprehend a proclaimed offender. During the operation, officers stopped a car being driven by Danish Ali, a resident of Firdaus Market in Gulberg.
According to the FIR, the driver was playing a Punjabi song at high volume and told police it was his hobby to listen to loud music while driving. Police said the act fell under Section 6 of the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act, 2015, which restricts the use of loudspeakers and sound systems in public spaces.
The car was seized, and the driver was taken into custody.
The move has generated criticism online, with many questioning whether registering a criminal case over music volume was a proportional response. Social media users described the action as unnecessary and an invasion of personal privacy, sparking fresh debate over the application of the provincial sound regulation law.
