French retail giant Carrefour has confirmed it will end operations in Kuwait, with its stores set to close on September 16, 2025.
In an official statement, the company expressed gratitude to its long-time customers, saying: “On behalf of Carrefour management and employees, we sincerely thank you for your support over the decades.”
Carrefour operates in over 40 countries with more than 14,000 outlets worldwide, including a strong presence across the Gulf. The brand was first introduced to the Middle East in 1995 by Majid Al Futtaim, which holds its exclusive franchise rights. Industry insiders suggest the group may replace Carrefour in Kuwait with its recently launched retail chain, HyperMax.
The Kuwait closure follows Carrefour’s recent exit from Bahrain and the earlier shutdown of its stores in Jordan in November 2024.
Despite these withdrawals, Carrefour remains a leading supermarket brand in the UAE, where it continues to operate in major malls and residential areas, maintaining its popularity among residents.
