Karachi City FC Create History as Pakistan’s First Team in SAFF Women’s Club Championship

Women’s football in Pakistan is set to enter a new era this December as Karachi City Football Club (FC) prepares to make history at the inaugural SAFF Club Women’s Championship, scheduled for 17–20 December in Nepal.

The SAFF Women’s Club Championship will bring together five leading women’s teams from across South Asia: Nasrin Sports Academy (Bangladesh), Transport United Ladies FC (Bhutan), East Bengal FC (India), APF Football Club (Nepal), and Pakistan’s very own Karachi City FC.

The team earned its spot by winning the 2024 National Women’s Football Championship.

For Pakistan, the participation of Karachi City FC is more than just a first, it represents a long-awaited breakthrough on the regional stage. Until now, local women footballers have had limited opportunities to test themselves against international opposition.

This tournament not only validates the progress of the domestic women’s game but also offers players a chance to gain vital experience against South Asia’s established clubs.

The championship will be closely followed in Pakistan, where women’s football has often struggled for recognition amid structural challenges and limited resources. By qualifying for the event, Karachi City FC has already achieved a milestone moment for the sport at home.

Fans and experts alike see this as a turning point. Beyond the results, Karachi City’s presence ensures Pakistani women are visible on the regional football map, inspiring the next generation to believe in careers within the game.

As the countdown to December in Nepal begins, hopes will be high that Karachi City FC can carry the country’s flag with pride and set new benchmarks for women’s football in Pakistan.
