The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to take action against users flaunting their wealth on social media, sources revealed.
According to details, the FBR has collected data on around 100,000 wealthy individuals. Non-filers who spend lavishly on weddings will also face scrutiny, sources said. The authority has gathered information on people showcasing their luxury lifestyle online, including mansions, expensive cars, jewelry, and other assets.
Sources disclosed that individuals wearing suits worth as much as $20,000 at weddings will also come under the tax net. The FBR will require such individuals to declare their sources of income.
Moreover, the tax authority will compare income tax returns submitted last year with those filed this year. If tax declarations do not reflect an increase in line with evident spending and displays of wealth, action will be initiated against such individuals, sources added.

While I am against showing off wealth like this . This fbr move will cause a lot of people to move abroad or atleast transfer money abroad. FBR has too much power now and very corrupt
The problem is that while they flaunt all this wealth, tax contributions remain close to nothing. If you earn that much, then simply pay your due share of tax. FBR should be powerful, and even now compared to other countries it is still weak. Try evading 1 penny in foreign countries and you will face the law
FBR should be powerful in Pakistan because the government does not have to beg IMF every year. In Pakistan, the elites are getting out of their minds and also getting too much wealthy, and FBR is the best agency to contain them.

No issue in flaunting ones wealth provided government taxes have been paid. Most of them are not even tax filers and that’s what FBR is saying to take action against.

I think this is not a great way to get tax and fbr needs to collect these types from cash economy, elite class, sendicate, black economy etc not from people who are earning from trading, social media, freelancing

FBR must take action against such individuals, instead of mere bragging. The salaried and middle class persons are normally subject to deduction of income tax at source, without having any option to avoid or reduce the tax. On the other hand, affluent businessmen, industialist, landlords and such like individuals are outside the domain of FBR in Pakistan. This practice should now cease forthwith and all such tax evaders, including those mentioned in the news item, must be brought to tax net.
Get the proof of their luxurious purchases and then put them behind bars including families who are sharing the properties while living under the same roof and beneficiary of same business group
People from Pakistan going for Umrah and nafli Hajj should also be taxed for the same amount the spent on their opted package the data should be taken from travel logs and airlines.

Umrah should not less than 10 years and Hajj not less than 12 years of last travel span.

By not allowing repeat pilgrims it would also make it easier for first timers to make the journey to the holy land.
