South African cricket has received a major boost ahead of the Pakistan tour, as star wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock has officially reversed his retirement from ODI cricket and committed to representing the Proteas across formats once again.
De Kock, who last played for South Africa in the T20 World Cup final against India in Barbados in June 2024, had been absent from international duty for over a year, raising questions about his long-term future. His return comes at a crucial time, with South Africa beginning preparations for next year’s T20 World Cup.
With his comeback, Quinton de Kock will be part of both the ODI and T20I squads facing Pakistan. His inclusion adds experience and firepower to a relatively experimental limited-overs setup, which sees David Miller leading the T20Is and Matthew Breetzke captaining the ODIs.
The Test leg of the tour will also start without regular captain Temba Bavuma, who has been sidelined due to a calf strain. Aiden Markram will take over as stand-in skipper for the two-match series, starting October 12 in Lahore.

For Pakistani fans, Quinton de Kock’s return adds another layer of excitement to an already high-profile series. Known for his aggressive stroke play and ability to shift momentum in a single session, the left-hander has a strong track record in Asian conditions. His presence means Pakistan’s bowlers will face one of South Africa’s most seasoned and dangerous players.
South Africa is scheduled to play two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is in Pakistan. With Quinton de Kock back in the mix and fresh leadership across formats, South Africa’s tour of Pakistan promises high drama, fierce competition, and moments that could shape the future of both teams.
