Punjab University Announces Scholarships for Students

The 361st meeting of the Punjab University (PU) Senate was held on Thursday at the Senate Hall, Old Campus, under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, who presided on behalf of the Punjab Governor as Chancellor.

During the session, the Senate approved scholarships worth Rs. 170 million for students, continuing the university’s long-standing policy of financial support. The meeting also saw the introduction of Punjab University’s first strategic plan, which sets out reforms in academic, financial, and administrative areas.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali told participants that a majority of students at Punjab University receive scholarships and assured that no student would be forced to discontinue education due to fees. He added that this year, every student will receive a subsidy of Rs. 219,000, while hostel residents will be entitled to an additional Rs. 150,000 subsidy.

The university will also establish an endowment fund for research, pensions, and development initiatives, he said, noting that PU had achieved savings of Rs240 million on electricity costs over the past eight months.

The Senate further approved recommendations of the Academic Council and gave approval to the budgets for 2024–25 and 2025–26.
