Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal announced on Monday that the operations of the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) will soon be fully digitized to reduce human involvement and eliminate inefficiencies.
The announcement came during a meeting on PNC affairs, also attended by the federal health secretary and an additional secretary.
The minister said the council would be completely digitalized to improve transparency, merit, and efficiency in its functioning.
“We will restore the credibility of the nursing profession and turn the Pakistan Nursing Council into a modern, effective, and internationally recognized body,” Kamal stated.
Highlighting the importance of nursing in Pakistan’s healthcare system, he pointed out the severe shortage of professionals. “Pakistan is currently facing a deficit of nearly 900,000 nurses, while the global shortfall of qualified nurses stands at around 2.5 million,” he said.
He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to strengthen the nursing sector through reforms, policy improvements, and advanced digital systems. According to him, nursing remains one of the most crucial pillars of healthcare, and bold steps are being taken to align the profession with global standards.
“We are committed to modernizing the nursing sector, ensuring merit-based practices, and introducing effective reforms so that Pakistan’s nurses can meet both domestic and international demands,” he added.
The minister concluded that reforms would continue with a strong emphasis on transparency, modernization, and merit to uplift the nursing profession and improve healthcare delivery nationwide.
