Chief Minister Punjab and the provincial Education Minister have approved a suggestion — originally shared by a citizen on social media platform X — aimed at instilling cleanliness habits among schoolchildren.
Under the new directive, teachers across Punjab will now remind students every day not to throw litter or wrappers on roads, inside schools, or even at home. Instead, children will be encouraged to always use dustbins. If bins are not available, students will be advised to keep a spare shopping bag with them to store wrappers or trash until they can dispose of it properly.
Class teachers will also be instructed to repeat this guidance after every lesson, while school administrations will be responsible for ensuring that campuses remain completely free of litter.
Supporters of the initiative believe the move will create a province-wide movement for better civic habits. “When children hear this message daily, they will take it home and influence their families too. This is how real change begins,” the citizen who proposed the idea explained.
He further suggested that such small steps can eventually pave the way for adopting other positive social habits common in developed countries, such as not throwing trash on streets, maintaining silence in public transport, and switching off mobile phones in trains.
“This movement requires no financial resources — only consistency,” he said, adding that CM Punjab’s simple order could mark the start of a wider cultural shift in society.
