PMD Forecasts Thundershowers in Karachi

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and thundershowers in Karachi within the next 24 hours, following the intensification of a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea into a Depression.

According to the forecast, most parts of Sindh will experience hot and dry weather, while Karachi, Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, and nearby areas may see partly cloudy skies with rain, gusty winds, or thunderstorms.

The Met Office reported on Thursday that the weather disturbance is now about 440 kilometers south of Karachi. As a result, high waves and rough sea conditions are expected along the Sindh coastline, with winds ranging between 45 and 55 km/h.

The PMD has advised fishermen to avoid deep-sea ventures until October 3, citing dangerous maritime conditions. In response, deputy commissioners and local administrations have been instructed to remain on alert and adopt precautionary measures.

Officials also noted that Pakistan is facing an unusual extension of the monsoon season, as two major weather systems — one from the Arabian Sea and the other from the Bay of Bengal — are converging. This interaction could bring widespread rain, thunderstorms, and cyclone-like activity in various parts of the country.
