38,000 Schools in Punjab Face Shortage of Funds Due to Delays

A severe funding shortage has affected more than 38,000 schools across Punjab, disrupting regular educational activities, according to official sources.

Despite the start of the new fiscal year three months ago, the non-salary budget—essential for meeting schools’ operational needs—has not yet been released by the School Education Department.

Officials said that this non-salary budget covers expenses for basic facilities, maintenance, and utilities. Each quarter, schools are supposed to receive one installment of these funds, but the first payment of the year has still not been issued.

In Lahore alone, schools usually receive Rs160 million every quarter, but the delay has left many institutions struggling to pay bills and maintain daily operations.

Education officials have warned that if funds are not released soon, basic educational activities and maintenance work could be further affected across the province.
