The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has introduced a new 10-tier grading system that will take effect from the First Annual Examinations 2026 for SSC-I and HSSC-I, and from 2027 for SSC-II and HSSC-II levels.
The decision follows the directives of the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC), which approved the revised formula in its 182nd meeting held in August 2025.
A notification issued by the FBISE on October 7, 2025, detailed the new grading structure aimed at providing a fairer and more comprehensive evaluation of student performance.
Under the new system, students scoring 96–100% will receive an A++ (Extraordinary) grade, while 91–95% will earn A+ (Exceptional), and 86–90% will be graded as A (Outstanding).
Those securing 81–85% will get B++ (Excellent), 76–80% will get B+ (Very Good), and 71–75% will be marked as B (Good). Similarly, 61–70% corresponds to C+ (Fairly Good), 51–60% to C (Above Average), and 40–50% to D (Emerging). Students scoring below 40% will be marked as U (Ungraded).
According to the notification, students declared ungraded in a paper will be required to reappear in the same subject if otherwise eligible.
