In an effort to modernize Pakistan’s examination system, the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) convened a meeting on Wednesday to discuss introducing automation, Optical Mark Recognition (OMR), and e-marking technologies aimed at improving transparency and evaluation standards.
The meeting was attended by Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Chairman Faqir Muhammad Lakho, Sindh Board of Technical Education Chairman Musharraf Ali Rajput, and Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) Chairman Dr. Ikram Ali Malik at the FBISE headquarters.
It was agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would soon be signed among the three boards. Under this collaboration, the Federal Board will extend full technical support, training, and guidance to the Karachi and Sindh Technical Boards for implementing automation and e-marking systems.
In the initial phase, two officers from each provincial board will undergo specialized training at the Federal Board in Islamabad. Once completed, the Federal Board’s established systems of automation, OMR, and e-marking will be replicated in Karachi and Sindh.
The initiative aims to make the examination process more efficient, transparent, and reliable.
Chairman Lakho shared that the Karachi Board had already conducted the Intermediate Part-I Mathematics exam for 2025 using the e-marking system as a pilot project, which produced encouraging results.
The meeting was also attended by FBISE Director IT Dr. Bashir Khan and Controller of Examinations Aqeel Imran.
