Date Confirmed for Launch of Electric Bus Service in Rawalpindi

Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz is set to inaugurate a new electric public bus service in Rawalpindi on October 15, introducing a modern, eco-friendly, and affordable transport option for residents of the garrison city.

Speaking to reporters, PML-N Rawalpindi Division President Malik Abrar Ahmad said that 87 air-conditioned electric buses would be rolled out in phases across four routes. The first route, running from Rawat to Motorway Chowk, will launch in the initial phase.

Malik Abrar, who also chairs the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on the Cabinet Secretariat, stated that the fare will be Rs. 20 per ride, while students and senior citizens aged 60 and above will enjoy free travel.

He added that the new bus service would offer a dignified and efficient mode of transportation while easing traffic congestion in the city. Residents, he said, were eagerly anticipating the chief minister’s visit, viewing the project as a landmark welfare initiative designed to improve daily commuting and extend modern facilities to all citizens.

Highlighting CM Maryam Nawaz’s broader vision, Malik Abrar noted that since assuming office, she has introduced extensive reforms to enhance governance, transparency, and public service delivery. Under her leadership, he said, Punjab has made significant progress in education, healthcare, transportation, employment, infrastructure, and social welfare.
