Dubai Unveils World’s First Smart Gold Testing Kiosk

Dubai has once again demonstrated its innovation leadership by unveiling a first-of-its-kind self-service kiosk that can test the purity of gold jewellery in under a minute — a revolutionary step years after the city introduced its famous gold-dispensing ATM.

The Dubai Municipality launched the cutting-edge device at GITEX Global 2025, which opened on Monday at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Described as the world’s first “Smart Gold and Jewellery Testing Lab”, the kiosk functions like a fully automated laboratory, offering instant and accurate analysis of gold and other precious metals.

A Dubai Municipality spokesperson explained that the system integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to deliver precise results in less than 60 seconds.

Consumers can access their test results via SMS or a printed receipt, similar to transactions on an ATM or cash deposit machine. The report lists the metal composition — such as gold, silver, copper, and zinc — in percentage form, ensuring transparency for both buyers and sellers.

Boosting Trust in Dubai’s Gold Market

Officials said the innovation will significantly enhance consumer confidence and reinforce Dubai’s global reputation as a trusted hub for the gold and jewellery trade.

“This development enhances transparency, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in the precious metals sector,” the spokesperson said.

Traditionally, purity verification through the Dubai Central Laboratory could take up to a week. In contrast, this new self-service kiosk offers laboratory-grade testing instantly, providing unparalleled convenience for residents and tourists alike.

Accessible Across the Gold Souq and Major Malls

As part of Dubai Municipality’s long-term strategy, these smart kiosks will soon be installed in prominent locations, including the Dubai Gold Souq and major shopping malls, allowing the public to verify gold purity on the spot.

The initiative builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed between Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) to expand access to precious metal testing services across the emirate.

By merging cutting-edge technology with consumer convenience, Dubai continues to redefine innovation in the global gold industry, ensuring transparency, trust, and world-class service for all.
