In a breakthrough for next-generation connectivity, e& UAE, in collaboration with New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi, has successfully conducted the first 6G Terahertz (THz) pilot in the Middle East, achieving a record data speed of 145 gigabits per second (Gbps). The test marks a major milestone in the UAE’s mission to lead the development of intelligent, immersive, and sustainable communications infrastructure.
The pilot demonstrated 6G’s potential to deliver ultra-high capacity and low latency, unlocking transformative technologies such as holographic telepresence, extended reality (XR), digital twins, and terabit-class backhaul for future smart cities and industries.
“6G means faster-than-instant responses, near-fail-proof uptime, and networks that combine connectivity with sensing, local compute, and quantum-resistant security,” said Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, in an interview with Khaleej Times.
Mahmood emphasized that 6G networks will integrate satellites, high-altitude platforms, and terrestrial systems to form a “network of networks,” ensuring continuous coverage across land, sea, and air.
Marwan Bin Shaker, Acting CTIO at e& UAE, said the pilot demonstrates the transformative power of 6G to reimagine connectivity for people, businesses, and smart cities, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a pioneer in advanced communications technology.
