NADRA Gives Major Relief to Overseas Pakistanis

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced that the cancellation of the National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) for deceased citizens will now be free of charge.

The decision was made on the directions of the Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control to encourage timely and accurate registration of deaths.

According to NADRA, after registering a death with the relevant Union Council or Pakistani Embassy, any immediate family member — including parents, siblings, spouse, or children — can cancel the deceased’s NICOP without paying a fee.

The process can be completed either through the Pak ID mobile application or by visiting the nearest NADRA Centre.

In a further facilitation, NADRA has also removed the requirement to physically return the deceased’s NICOP card. The authority said the new policy aims to simplify the documentation process for families and ensure the accuracy of national records.
