The Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad, Zain-ul-Abideen Memon, has imposed a comprehensive ban on smoking across the city, effective immediately. The decision was made during a meeting of the District Implementation and Monitoring Committee on Tobacco Control to ensure strict enforcement of the Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health Ordinance, 2002.
A notification issued by the district administration mandates that No Smoking signs must be prominently displayed in all public and private offices, educational institutions, restaurants, shopping malls, hospitals, and other public spaces. The use of ashtrays or any smoking-related accessories in public or commercial areas has also been prohibited.
The notification further directs that all designated smoking areas in offices, hotels, and public places be dismantled without delay. Authorities have warned that violators will face legal action under the relevant tobacco control laws.
Deputy Commissioner Memon emphasized that the ban applies to every location accessible to the public, reiterating that the orders are in immediate effect and will remain enforced until further notice.
