The Sindh government has announced a two-day public holiday for Hindu employees on October 20 and 21 in connection with the Diwali festival.
According to the official notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, the holidays will apply to all Hindu employees working in government and semi-government departments, schools, colleges, universities, and local councils across the province.
Since Sunday, October 19, is already a weekly holiday, Hindu employees will effectively have a three-day break — from October 19 to 21 — to celebrate Diwali with their families and loved ones.
So far, Sindh is the only province to have declared holidays for Diwali. However, announcements from the federal government and other provinces are expected soon, which may allow the Hindu community across Pakistan to celebrate their religious festival nationwide.
