Pakistan Railways Ordered to Install Jammers on Trains

A National Assembly panel on Friday directed Pakistan Railways to tighten security on key rail routes and install three signal-jamming devices in every train to safeguard passengers after the October 7 attack on the Jaffer Express.

Officials told the Standing Committee on Railways that the passenger train was hit by an improvised explosive device near Sultan Kot station in Sindh, causing five bogies to derail and injuring seven people, including railway staff.

The committee — chaired by MNA Ramesh Lal in the chairman’s absence — urged the department to increase physical patrolling on vulnerable sections of the network and roll out on-board jamming technology as a deterrent and response measure.
