Family Care And Protection
The sustained efforts of the Edhi Foundation and Punjab Police led to an emotional reunion in Lahore on Sunday as a woman named Ishrat, originally from Gujranwala, was restored to her family after 21 years.
Ishrat burst into tears as she embraced her elder sister for the first time in more than two decades.
She had been living at Edhi Home in Lahore since childhood, where she remained under care, received education, and grew into adulthood in a secure environment.
In an attempt to trace her family, the Edhi Foundation had displayed Ishrat’s photographs at its different centres across the province. Her elder sister eventually spotted one of the posters, recognised her, and contacted the Edhi Home after compiling the necessary proof of identity.
The organisation vetted the family’s documents and invited them to the centre once verification was complete. The reunion took place in the presence of Edhi staff.
Following the reunion, Ishrat and her family expressed gratitude to Faisal Edhi and his wife for their persistent assistance, which made the breakthrough possible. Ishrat said she spent 21 years at the facility, where she lived safely and completed her education.
