Asia Cup Trophy Row Nears End as ACC Sets Handover Date

The long, drawn-out wait for the official handover of the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to India is finally coming to an end, with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) reportedly confirming that the ceremony is scheduled for the first week of November.

According to reports, the ACC has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the trophy presentation will take place at the council’s office, with the Indian board invited to attend the event.

India, despite winning the 2025 Asia Cup, was never handed the prize after refusing to accept it on stage from ACC head Mohsin Naqvi, who in turn decided to keep the pennant at the ACC headquarters, insisting the Indian team was welcome to receive it in person.

The BCCI once again reached out to the ACC President seeking clarity on when and how the trophy would be officially handed over to India, who won the tournament in September. In its response, the ACC clarified that it never refused to hand over the trophy and maintained its stance that the champion team must collect it directly from the council’s headquarters. The letter reportedly invited the Indian board to “bring one of your players and receive the trophy.”

While the ACC had initially mentioned a window in the first week of November, it has now proposed November 10 for the official ceremony. The BCCI has been informed of the plan and is expected to confirm its participation soon.

For Mohsin Naqvi, who serves as both PCB Chairman and ACC President, this handover carries symbolic weight. The Asia Cup was the first major event held under his leadership at the regional body, and the resolution of the trophy issue helps the ACC turn the page on a politically charged tournament.

Once the ceremony takes place, India will formally receive the silverware, closing the chapter on a competition that, both on and off the field, was one of the most complicated in Asia Cup history.
