Punjab Bans Usage of Wheat in Poultry Farms

The Punjab government has extended the ban on the use of wheat in animal feed mills for another 30 days due to concerns over a possible shortage of the grain in the province.

According to an official notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restriction has been imposed under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, prohibiting feed mills across the province from using wheat. The grain may only be supplied to flour mills for the production of wheat flour.

The order will remain in effect until Monday, December 1, the notification stated.

Reports indicate that feed mills in Punjab currently hold over 100,000 metric tons of wheat, which they had planned to use in poultry feed production.

A spokesperson for the Home Department said that wheat is a basic food item for humans and should be used exclusively for flour production.

To raise public awareness, the department has instructed officials to publicize the directive widely through the official gazette, newspapers, and electronic and social media platforms.
