The Sindh government has announced a major step to strengthen urban security by linking surveillance systems of public transport with the provincial Safe City Network.
According to Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, cameras installed in the People’s Bus Service and the upcoming Electric Vehicle (EV) Taxi Service will now be integrated with the Safe City Project through an advanced Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
Memon said the initiative aims to enhance public safety, modernize traffic management, and improve monitoring across Karachi and other major cities. “This integration will make transport safer and help us introduce smart security solutions for urban areas,” he stated.
He also confirmed that the government is preparing to launch the EV Taxi Service in December, providing citizens with an affordable, eco-friendly, and comfortable mode of travel.
Meanwhile, a delegation of investors met with the senior minister to discuss the EV Taxi Project. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, and other officials.
During the meeting, private investors shared proposals related to the project’s structure, charging stations, and operational models. Memon emphasized that Karachi urgently needs a modern and efficient transport system, and the EV Taxi Service will serve as a better alternative to conventional vehicles.
He added that the EV Taxi Service will initially be launched in Karachi and later expanded to other major cities of Sindh. The project is also seen as a strong investment opportunity due to its economic and environmental potential.
Memon further announced the introduction of a “Pink EV Taxi Service” dedicated for women, ensuring safe and comfortable travel for female passengers. The service will feature modern monitoring systems, including the ITS, to guarantee transparency, efficiency, and safety.
The minister reaffirmed that the Sindh government views public–private partnerships as vital for promoting sustainable transport and improving environmental quality. He said the EV Taxi initiative will not only provide public convenience but also contribute to Sindh’s overall economic growth.
