Nimco Factory Sealed for Using Substandard Materials

Acting on the directions of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General Asim Javed, food safety teams carried out an inspection of snack manufacturing factories at Liaquat Chowk, uncovering serious hygiene violations.

During the operation, officials found a unit producing substandard and unsafe Nimco and snacks for children. The factory was using used and contaminated oil, banned artificial colors, and unlabeled open spices in production.

Authorities immediately sealed the factory and disposed of nearly two maunds (approx. 80 kg) of unhealthy oil, along with the illegal food colors and raw materials.

According to the PFA spokesperson, the factory’s working conditions were extremely unhygienic, with dirty walls, broken floors, and a foul smell filling the production area. Inspectors also reported that rats, lizards, and flies were found in abundance around the production site.

DG Food Authority Asim Javed said that the operation is part of the authority’s province-wide drive to ensure safe and hygienic food products, particularly those intended for children. He added that strict action will continue against food businesses violating health and safety standards.
