Punjab Cracks Down on Hotels and Wedding Halls

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has intensified its campaign against tax evasion, conducting inspections in several cities and seizing the sales records of numerous restaurants, cafés, and marquees in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, and Vehari.

According to PRA officials, the inspection teams uncovered major discrepancies in tax submissions during their review of business records. In several instances, businesses had collected sales tax from customers but failed to deposit it into the government treasury.

A PRA spokesperson said enforcement officers seized the records where irregularities were detected and suspended system connectivity for businesses operating outside the official e-IMS. He added that strict action would be taken against those submitting false data or concealing sales information.

The spokesperson also emphasized that collecting tax from customers without depositing it with the government is a serious violation of PRA laws and carries severe penalties.

He noted that heavy fines have already been imposed on violators, reaffirming the authority’s commitment to promoting transparency and ensuring that all registered businesses fully comply with the e-IMS system.
