The Karachi Bus Owners Association has approached the Sindh High Court to challenge the recently launched e-challan system, calling it illegal and oppressive.
According to details, Association President Farooq Ahmed filed a constitutional petition through Advocate Munsif Jan Gujar. The petition argues that the e-challan system and the heavy fines imposed through it are unlawful and excessively harsh.
It states that the notification includes unnecessary penalties, adding that the fine for a first challan has been set at Rs. 200,000, while a second challan carries a fine of Rs. 300,000.
The petition further mentions that bus drivers could face a penalty of Rs. 15,000 for allowing passengers to sit on the roof, while motorcyclists without helmets could be fined Rs. 5,000.
Farooq Ahmed requested the court to declare the notification illegal and strike it down. The Sindh High Court has listed the petition for a regular bench hearing on Monday, November 10.
