Another Railway Station Upgraded

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi inaugurated the newly restored Golra Railway Station in Islamabad on Friday, marking the completion of a major heritage preservation project.

Built in 1881, Golra Station is one of the subcontinent’s oldest railway landmarks. The site, surrounded by century-old trees and vintage artifacts, has been carefully restored to its original colonial-era architecture.

The inauguration ceremony drew federal ministers, senators, diplomats, and media representatives. Speaking at the event, Hanif Abbasi said the renovation aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s broader vision to modernize and digitize Pakistan Railways.

He noted that initiatives such as Safe and Smart Stations, cashless ticketing, and free Wi-Fi are being rolled out in collaboration with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).

Abbasi highlighted new digital reforms like the Freight Online System, Weigh Bridges, Rail Contact App, and the 117 Call Centre, all aimed at improving passenger convenience. He also announced that major stations nationwide will be upgraded with facilities such as information desks, escalators, CIP lounges, and quality food outlets.
