Xiaomi has launched the Water Guard 2, its latest smart leak detection device, now available in China for about $10 on major online retailers. The device is designed to help homeowners detect water leaks in a variety of situations.
The Water Guard 2 features a compact, circular design with a diameter of 55mm and a thickness of 19.5mm. Xiaomi uses a dual-color injection molding technique for both the outer shell and button, giving the product a seamless appearance. The device is rated IP67 for dust and water resistance, allowing it to work reliably even in damp or dusty conditions.
Xiaomi equips the Water Guard 2 with two types of water sensors. The bottom dual-probe sensor can detect as little as 0.5mm of standing water, while the top sensor is designed to pick up dripping or splashing. This dual approach enables the device to spot leaks both at floor level and in higher locations such as under sinks or near washing machines.
For alerts, the Water Guard 2 uses a built-in buzzer and LED indicator, providing local sound and light warnings even when offline. Users can also connect the device to the Mi Home app for remote notifications, real-time monitoring, adjustable alert settings, and battery status checks.
The device runs on Bluetooth 5.2 and uses a CR2450 coin cell battery, with Xiaomi claiming up to three years of battery life thanks to its low power design. Nickel-plated, corrosion-resistant probes and anti-UV materials help prevent rust and yellowing.
When connected to a Xiaomi Bluetooth Mesh gateway, the Water Guard 2 can interact with other devices in the Xiaomi HyperOS ecosystem. For example, it can automatically switch off a connected smart socket if a leak is detected, reducing the risk of electrical hazards.
