Convince Apple to Enter Pakistan: NA Panel

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology on Tuesday urged the Ministry of Information Technology to engage with Apple and convince the tech giant to establish an official presence in Pakistan.

During the committee meeting, Chairman Syed Amin Ul Haque questioned why Apple has yet to enter the Pakistani market despite expanding into neighboring countries.

If Apple can operate in India and Bangladesh, why can’t it come to Pakistan? he asked.

Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja informed the committee that premium smartphones, including Apple’s iPhones and Google’s Pixel devices, are currently imported into Pakistan and are subject to applicable import duties and taxes.

The committee chairman argued that global technology brands such as Nokia and Samsung already have a presence in Pakistan and Apple should be launched as well.
