Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi has launched a major beautification project for Peshawar, aimed at restoring the historic charm of the provincial capital.
Under the initiative, the government will rehabilitate roads, install new streetlights, improve traffic flow, develop green areas, and install sculptures across the city.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the chief minister said the people of KP had voted for Imran Khan’s vision for the third time, and the government would provide maximum public facilities.
He said all future laws and policies would prioritise public welfare and the wider public interest.
CM Highlights ‘Financial Discrimination’ Against KP
Afridi criticised “ill-informed individuals” questioning KP’s one percent share under the NFC Award for the war on terror, noting that the province had made the greatest sacrifices in the fight.
He said KP continued to face financial discrimination, claiming:
- Rs. 2,200 billion in net hydel profit payments remain pending with the federal government
- The federal government pledged Rs. 100 billion annually for the merged districts, but failed to release the funds
- Rs. 550 billion owed to the merged districts is still unpaid
He added that while the administrative merger of the former FATA had been completed, its financial merger is still pending.
KP’s Rightful NFC Share ‘Not Given’
Afridi stated that KP’s rightful NFC Award share is 19.4%, but the province receives only 14.6%.
“The federal government is treating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa like a stepchild,” he said, demanding the release of the Rs. 3,000 billion outstanding against the federation.
