Fake Shopping Websites Explode During 11.11 Sales

Kaspersky has issued a warning about increasing scam and phishing attempts targeting online shoppers during the ongoing 11.11 sale campaigns worldwide. The cybersecurity company says new scam trends are emerging that impersonate major brands to trick buyers into revealing sensitive information.

According to Kaspersky, fake websites copying large e-commerce platforms are being used to steal payment data, send fake order confirmations, and drain victims’ bank accounts. These fraudulent sites often mimic Amazon, Lazada, and other well-known or completely fabricated e-commerce brands.

Scammers typically send links to these fake websites through email or ads on various platforms. Once users land on them, they are asked to enter full payment details at checkout. No products are delivered, and the victims lose their money.

Olga Altukhova, Senior Web Content Analyst at Kaspersky, said:

Opportunistic fraud spikes during major sales events like 11.11 because urgency and the desire to buy goods cheap clouds judgment. Make sure you are on a legitimate e-commerce website before entering your payment information. Avoid links from unsolicited emails or ads, and use a separate bank card for online purchases. Consumers who have entered data on suspicious sites should contact their bank immediately.

To shop safely during sales, Kaspersky advises users to verify the authenticity of email senders before clicking on any content. The company warns against opening attachments or links from unfamiliar sources. It also recommends checking the accuracy of a website’s address and ensuring the page design is not suspicious before entering personal details.

Kaspersky further suggests using devices equipped with comprehensive security software. The company says its Kaspersky Premium product provides strong protection against online shopping fraud and has been certified by AV-Comparatives for fake shop detection. Shoppers should also read customer reviews and check seller ratings before buying from new or unverified stores.

Users are advised to review their online banking statements regularly instead of waiting for physical bills and report any unauthorized transactions to their financial institution immediately.
