Karachi Police Allegedly Sexually Assaults Woman Looking for Credit Card Assistance

A woman in Karachi has accused police personnel of sexually assaulting her inside a station after she sought help to apply for a credit card. She further claims the perpetrators filmed the alleged assault and later used the explicit footage to blackmail her.

According to local reports, the Sindh High Court expressed serious dissatisfaction with an investigation report submitted by the Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation). The report noted that a special team, led by officers from Bahadurabad and Firozabad, had been formed to arrest the suspects. However, the court said the document failed to show any substantial progress.

The court reminded authorities that it had previously ordered police to register a case under cybercrime laws and to ensure all explicit content was removed from social media. Yet, the latest report did not reflect compliance with those directives.

The Sindh High Court further stated that the response from the investigating officer suggested a lack of seriousness. As a result, the case has now been handed over to the Additional Inspector General for further investigation and to ensure the arrest of the accused individuals still on the run.

The court instructed the Additional IG to personally supervise the inquiry and review all police actions taken so far. It also warned that if negligence is detected during the probe, strict departmental action will follow. The judges stressed that police would not be given a “clean slate” if they failed to carry out their duties.

The court said it expects full compliance with its orders, directing that a responsible representative from the Additional IG’s office appear at the next hearing. Copies of the court’s orders have been dispatched to the Inspector General of Sindh Police, the Advocate General, and the Prosecutor General.

The case will be heard again on December 8.
