Reports of physical violence against students are increasing across Punjab’s schools, prompting the School Education Department to enforce a strict ban on keeping sticks on campus.
According to official data, more than 70 cases of corporal punishment were reported during the 2024-25 academic year. This year alone, over 81 incidents have already been recorded. Despite multiple resolutions being tabled in the Punjab Assembly, no concrete legislation has been passed to curb these incidents.
Officials have directed that strict action will be taken against any teacher found possessing or using sticks in schools. In cases where severe violence is reported, FIRs will be registered against the responsible teachers.
However, concerns persist. At Government High School Kareem Block, students are reportedly still being punished for arriving late. The Lahore Education Authority has yet to issue any clear response regarding these ongoing violations.
