The Peshawar High Court has ordered authorities to stop collecting fines from vehicles traveling without an M-Tag on the M-1 Motorway. The directive came during a hearing on petitions challenging toll tax increases and penalties linked to the M-Tag system.
Justice Muhammad Naeem Anwar and Justice Kamran Hayat MianKhel heard the case. During the proceedings, the court asked the Director of Revenue at the National Highway Authority to submit the toll tax policy for review.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that toll taxes were increased in 2024. The Motorway Revenue Director responded that the increase was made according to policy. Justice Naeem Anwar remarked that the policy does not allow toll taxes to be raised four times in a single year.
The court then asked both sides to submit their replies and adjourned the hearing until December 12.
