A province-wide transport strike in Punjab has been announced for 8 December, with a nationwide shutdown planned from 10 December, as transporters protest the Punjab government’s recent increase in traffic fines.
The All Pakistan Goods Transport Association (APGTA) said the wheel-jam strike would begin if the authorities fail to accept their 25-point list of demands before the deadline. APGTA President Nabeel Tariq made the announcement during a press conference in Lahore on Wednesday.
Nabeel Tariq said the government implemented the Traffic Ordinance 2025 without consulting transporters. He explained that nearly 80% of their operations have stopped because of the heavy fines introduced under the new rules.
Both public and goods transport associations argue that the revised traffic penalties have placed an undue financial burden on drivers and vehicle owners.
Representatives warned that the movement of essential goods could stop if the issue is not resolved. They added that the sector is already under pressure due to what they describe as targeted challans and a tougher penalty structure.
In addition, goods transporters are also demanding land for new truck stands across Punjab and stronger action against rising incidents of highway robberies. They said the industry faces growing security risks and cannot continue operations under the current circumstances.

I wholeheartedly agree to their demands. Government is just minting money from all and sundry in hefty fines. So much time consumed just to get an Emission sticker. Now motorist are being forced to get a smart card, instead of the old Registration book. When will the Authorities take nite if what us going in under their nose.
Whose telling you to get fined? Get in line hahah
2 things
1 the need for m tag compulsory is wrong and should be stopped.
2. The so called emissions certification is a complete sham
People blame the Govt for being corrupt and greedy, but is the public any different? I am all for enforcement of these new traffic fines, but everyone I see is opposing them because they were very comfortable with committing hundreds of traffic violations per day with no consequences. If the transporters want to strike, they can strike, but nobody should cave and accept their demands.
Govt should have considered before implementing that pakistan is a third world country, roads conditions, vehicle conditions are not of the standard of developed nations,70%population is living beyond poverty line. These heavy fines and penalties are not justifiable in any case.
Appreciate it, it is never too late. Bring back missing sanity on the road. Don’t spare anyone, implementation should be across board.
No one should object and any doing so should be dealt accordingly.
Keep up the good work.
80% drivers have fake licenses, blackmailing govt to accept their points. Govt should check docs & licenses at entry points, stop heavy vehicles with invalid licenses.
They are all bunch of crooks(government etc), just new ways to bridge the gap on revenue as required by IMF.
Main problem is public isn’t united otherwise if everyone protested they can’t arrrest everyone as not enough room in jails as point in case with Action for Palistine protest in UK and other similar situations in other countries.
Nothing will change here until public unite regardless of whichever political party they belong to.
They will never follow traffic rules but they will go on strike if police stops their lawless behavior they drive in fast lane dont give way ti fast moving vehicles, let them be on strike when the will start dyibg of hunger they will come back hiwever if the block roads or show aggression they should be thrashed well and in casr of road blockage truck owners shoyld be awarded with FIRs
حکومت کو ان کے خلاف کریک ڈؤن کرنا چاہیے
This is insane. Putting that huge penalties are unjustified. Government should ease things rather than dragging every stone to the corner. In our country Law is only for the Poor. It’s a Shame
Train your drivers, fix your vehicles, and follow traffic rules like the rest of us instead of blackmailing the government into meeting your demands.
These large vehicle drivers drive like there are no rules and they are driving to audition for madmax movie.
I believe the fines for large vehicles should be even higher as in case of any accident, they cause significant damage.
