Instagram has announced a new feature that lets users see and control their Reels algorithm for the first time. The feature is accessible through an icon showing two lines with hearts in the upper right corner of the Reels interface.
When users tap the icon, they can see the topics Instagram believes they are interested in. From there, they can choose which topics they want to see more of and which they want to see less of. Reels’ recommendations will then adapt based on those choices.
Instagram also allows users to share their list of interests, as determined by the algorithm, to their Story. This gives friends and followers a look at what the app thinks they are into.
Instagram says the ability to see and modify what the algorithm thinks a user likes will expand to the Explore tab in the future, as well as “more places in the app soon,” according to the company’s blog post.
The new option to see and tune algorithm recommendations in Reels is rolling out today in the US. Instagram states that it will become available globally in English “soon.”
