Punjab Announces New Mandatory Rule for Motorcyclists Before Basant

Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has announced that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the revival of the Basant festival, which will take place in Lahore on February 6, 7, and 8 after a gap of 25 years.

According to the minister, the festival will return under the Basant Ordinance 2025, which the government will enforce in full. She said the ordinance requires every kite seller, kite string, and related material to be registered, QR-coded, and closely monitored to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations.

Aurangzeb stated that the festival belongs to the people and its safe execution is a shared responsibility. She added that CM Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to launch a citywide campaign to install safety antennas on all motorcycles starting today.

Officials plan to ensure that every motorcycle in Lahore is equipped with an antenna before and during the festival.

The provincial government has emphasized that public safety will remain the top priority throughout the celebrations. Authorities aim to ensure that the event reflects Lahore’s cultural heritage while maintaining a secure environment for residents and visitors.
