OICCI Urges Commerce Minister to Help End Cargo Transporters’ Strike

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan has been urged to help end the cargo transporters’ strike.

In a letter, he was informed that cargo transporters have been on strike nationwide for the past five days, which is seriously impacting the operation of major manufacturers and exporters.

“On behalf of OICCI members, representing the largest group of foreign investors, we seek your urgent support in resolving the issue of the transporters’ strike. The strike is in response to certain regulatory conditions put in by the provincial authorities of Punjab and Sindh,” OICCI SG M. Abdul Aleem said in a letter.

He stated that numerous concerns from OICCI members had arisen, highlighting the very negative impact of the strike on their operations, which, in certain cases, may lead to factory closures.

In view of the serious potential impact on the local industry, export and loss of revenue to the GOP, the minister has been asked to intervene so that the country does not face a serious economic challenge, besides sending a negative message to the international community on the disruption in business continuity in Pakistan.
