Has Punjab Government Banned Serving Food at Funerals?

Viral claims have circulated widely on social media alleging that the Punjab government has imposed a ban on preparing or serving food at funerals across the province.

The message claimed that authorities planned to prohibit cooking, food distribution, and funeral-related gatherings, and that district administrations would soon receive formal instructions to enforce the decision.

The posts further suggested that officials would take action against individuals who violated the alleged ban. The claims spread rapidly online, prompting confusion and concern among the public, as no official notification or policy document accompanied the reports.

Later, Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari addressed the circulating claims and rejected them outright. She dismissed the reports as “fake news” in a brief response shared on social media, clarifying that the Punjab government has not issued any directive banning food preparation or serving at funerals.

The clarification aimed to counter misinformation and prevent further spread of unverified content. The government has advised citizens to rely only on confirmed statements from official sources and avoid sharing rumors.
