Merit-Based AI Training Abroad Announced for Pakistani Students

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government plans to send Pakistani students abroad for training in artificial intelligence, including programs in Europe and China.

He announced the initiative while speaking at a ceremony at the University of Haripur, where authorities distributed laptops under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme. He said the government will select students from all provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, strictly on merit.

Officials, youth representatives, and students attended the ceremony, which marked the formal launch of the laptop scheme. The prime minister said the initiative has already benefited more than one million students across the country.

He said the government’s approach focuses on developing talent nationwide and stressed that Pakistan’s progress depends on balanced development across all regions. He referred to previous student training initiatives in agriculture and overseas education programs launched during his tenure as chief minister of Punjab.

Addressing local demands, the prime minister announced plans to establish a Daanish School in Haripur, modeled on similar institutions in Punjab, with separate campuses for boys and girls.

He also approved the establishment of a women’s campus at the University of Haripur and said authorities will move quickly to set it up.
