Transporters across Punjab continue to charge passengers fares higher than the officially notified rates despite a reduction in diesel prices, resulting in widespread public complaints.
According to the Transport Department, Lahore recorded the highest number of overcharging violations. Multiple reports were received regarding non-compliance with the newly issued fare schedule in the provincial capital.
On the previous day, authorities issued 24 challans in Lahore for overcharging. During the enforcement action, four vehicles were seized, and fines totaling Rs. 23,500 were imposed on the violators.
Across Punjab, enforcement operations led to 225 vehicles being challaned. Transporters were fined a total of Rs. 541,500 for overcharging passengers, while 91 vehicles were seized for violating the official fare schedule.
The Secretary Transport said a zero-tolerance policy is being strictly enforced to provide relief to the public and stressed that action against those charging excessive fares will continue without discrimination.
