Madrassa students in Islamabad have alleged that they were misled into going to Islamabad International Airport to welcome the Pakistan U19 cricket team returning from Dubai after their thumping win over India in the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025.
The students claim they were contacted by the SHO of Karachi Company Police Station, who allegedly informed them that the Imam-e-Kaaba was arriving in Pakistan and requested that they join a grand religious reception, recite a few words, and perform tilawat at the airport.
Footage circulating on social media shows the students complaining that they had no idea a cricket team was landing. They said they rushed to the airport believing it was a major religious occasion, only to find out it was a celebratory welcome for the Pakistan U19 squad.
Some of them expressed disappointment, saying the trip cost them valuable time and even made them miss the morning azaan, which they were supposed to give at their madrassa.
While the students stressed that they “love and support” the national cricket team and were happy about the Asia Cup victory, they condemned what they described as a “deceptive” way of bringing them to the airport.
