The City Traffic Police in Gujranwala issued more than 750,000 challans for traffic violations during 2025 and collected over Rs4.46 billion in fines, officials said on Tuesday.
According to official data, the enforcement drive operated under the supervision of Chief Traffic Officer Ayesha Butt and focused on both inner-city areas and zones within the bypass limits. Authorities said stricter enforcement led to a noticeable reduction in road accidents across the city.
Traffic police prioritized violations including failure to wear helmets and seatbelts, use of tinted windows, missing or non-standard number plates, unregistered vehicles, driving without a license, underage driving, and other traffic offenses.
In serious cases, police also registered criminal cases against vehicle owners. During the year, the traffic department issued 168,470 driving licenses, most of them to motorcyclists.
Officials estimated that around 100,000 motorcycles operate in the city and said a targeted campaign encouraged riders to obtain valid licenses.
Enforcement records show 8,808 one-way violations, 19,996 violations during smog-related restrictions, and 63,090 challans for riding without helmets.
Motorists were also fined for illegal parking, one-wheeling, driving without licenses, and using black-tinted window papers.
