Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Has a Secret Feature That Even iPhones Don’t Have

Xiaomi’s latest Redmi Note 15 phones may not be flagships like Apple’s iPhone 17, but still bring a highly convenient feature that the latter doesn’t have. In fact, the offline calling feature barely gets talked about enough to the point it almost feels like a secret feature on these phones that others don’t yet have.

Xiaomi’s Offline Communication

The Redmi Note 15 Pro lineup introduces Xiaomi Offline Communication, a system that allows users to make voice calls over long distances without cellular network coverage. The feature relies on a dedicated internal chip and works as long as a SIM card is installed, and the user is logged into a Xiaomi account.

Offline is aimed at people who spend time in remote areas, such as hikers, travelers, or those concerned about staying connected during emergencies. Unlike satellite messaging solutions that are limited in scope or region, Xiaomi’s approach enables direct voice communication without relying on mobile towers.

This essentially allows Xiaomi phones to act like a walkie-talkie, with up to ~1.9km range in open areas, ideal for network-free situations but with lower quality than normal calls. It uses a combination of Bluetooth with proprietary protocols and advanced antenna arrays for stronger local wireless links.

It cannot be used for texts and data as it only supports calls, but it doesn’t cost you any extra money. It should work with any Xiaomi phone running HyperOS 3 with the required hardware for offline communication. This includes the newest Redmi Note 15 phones as well as Xiaomi 15T, 15T Pro, and the flagship Xiaomi 17 series. Future Xiaomi phone releases are also expected to bring the same feature.
