A man jumped from the upper floor of the Grand Mosque (Masjid Al Haram) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Interior confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the Special Force for the Security of the Grand Mosque, security personnel immediately responded to the incident. A security officer was injured while attempting to stop the man from hitting the ground during the fall.
Authorities said both the man and the injured officer were transferred to a hospital for medical treatment, and all necessary legal procedures were completed.
In an official statement, Haram security forces said the incident involved a person attempting to take his own life from the upper floors of the mosque. The forces reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of pilgrims at the holy site.
Commenting on the incident, Sheikh Dr. Abdur Rahman As-Sudais, the Chief Imam of the Grand Mosque, urged pilgrims to respect the sanctity of the holy place, follow regulations and instructions, and devote themselves to worship.
He emphasized that one of the core objectives of Islamic law is the preservation of human life, citing the Quranic verse: “And do not throw yourselves into destruction with your own hands.”
